YJ0VK Vanuatu

Luke VK3HJ, Alan VK6CQ, Matt K0BBC and Chris VK3QB will activate Vanuatu on 40 through to 6 metres from 29 March until 11 April 2024. For the first week our focus will be on SSB and CW, with FT8 as a ‘back-fill’ mode. The second week will be CW and FT8.

We’ll have an IC7300 and 500W amplifier for SSB and the CW station will be an Elecraft KX3 with an SPE amplifier. FT8 will radiate with an IC7000. Antennas will be DX-Commander Expeditions (with thanks to Callum) and a 40 metre doublet.

Thanks Callum from DX Commander for his support.

DX Commander Amateur Radio Antennas – DX Commander Antennas

As with our previous DXpeditons this is a ‘holiday’ DXpedition. We will be enjoying the beautiful location and using the opportunity to see as much of Efate as we can. Having said that, we have three CW operators, so you can expect us to be pretty active.

If you want to get in the log, please listen to operator instructions.

– We will nearly always be operating split. Listen for instructions.

– If you cant hear us, please don’t call.

– If we call for a specific region (eg. NA, EU, AS, AF etc) please allow those ops to call

– We will make a special effort to listen for QRP stations and little pistols – if you heard us ask for QRP stations pls QRX

– We want to get as many uniques as possible; big guns – pls give the little guns some breathing space

Charles M0OXO

I was born in the 1960’s and have lived all my life in the Coal Mining Town of Barnsley in South Yorkshire, Northern England. My parents were all from this area of Yorkshire and my father worked in the main Industry of the local Collieries as a face worker. I have been married to my wife Debbie for 35+ years and we have two children and two grandchildren.

I have been licensed for around 20 years after my interest was re-kindled when I retired from my role as a Police Officer within South Yorkshire Police Force. The latter few years were spent as Radio Operator in the Force Operations Control Room at Sheffield, before my career ended.

IOTA chasing is (and always has been) my real passion, as climbing the ladder to reach Honour Roll status was always my main aim. The 1000 Islands Trophy is still out of reach but I am heading in the right direction. I am currently a Board Member of IOTA Ltd and IREF.

In my free time I am a keen Photographer of Wildlife, Aviation, (anything really) but the QSL Manager role is my main passion within Ham Radio.
