IOTA Annual Listings

iota-TRANS
IOTA enthusiasts are reminded that the last date for mailing applications or updates to checkpoints for inclusion in the 2017 Honour Roll and other performance tables is 31 January 2017.

If postmarked after that date, they will be processed in the normal way but the scores will be held over to the following year’s listing. It is important that participants who have not updated since the 2012 annual listings and wish to remain listed should make a submission on or before 31 January 2017.

9G5X – March 2017

9G5X crop

We’re pleased to announce that a team of six English operators will be travelling to Ghana in March 2017 and will operate on all modes as 9G5X using three Elecraft K3 and KPA-500 stations. We already have the 9G5X licence in hand and believe this is the first single letter suffix issued to a 9G DXpedition.

We will have two Spiderbeams up high on the hotel roof for HF, a variety of LF aerials using 18m and 12m Spiderpoles, plus two Beverage RX antennas for 160 and 80m. The operating QTH is approximately 1,000 ft a.s.l., with a clear take off to EU, NA and Asia, all set in 5 acres of sloping grounds. We will be QRV on all bands 160m to 10m and active on CW, SSB and RTTY.

The experienced operating team, which includes three of the recent C5X DXpedition crew members, is as follows:

  • Alan Ibbetson, G3XAQ
  • Steve Wilson, G3VMW
  • Fred Handscombe, G4BWP
  • Bob Henderson, 5B4AGN
  • Iain Kelly, M0PCB
  • Neil Clarke, G6MC

This is a fly-in, fly-out operation and is entirely self-funded. We will not be asking for donations and our aim is to activate a semi-rare country for the sheer fun of it. There is a reliable 3G Internet connection at the operating site and we hope to upload logs to Clublog at least twice every day.

9G5X will have the Clublog Leaderboard function turned ‘on’, and we encourage everyone to work us on as many bands and modes as possible. We all enjoy pile-ups and we will always work split-frequency, but endeavour to keep the pile-up spread as narrow as possible.

Our QSL Manager, Charles Wilmott, M0OXO will upload logs to LoTW on a daily basis. Charles will offer OQRS facilities for 9G5X cards, either direct or via the Bureau.

YC9MLL OC-151 …. Jan 2017

YC9MLL 1B

Today I received this information from Leo YC9MLL;

“I have also bought tickets already for Flores Island IOTA OC-151.  I will be on air there most probably on January 18-19 7 21st 2017 and then again on the 22, 24 & 25th January 2017.

I will also be qrv in July 2017 again on the same days 21-22 & 24th.

I will be running 100W mostly on 21 MHz around the IOTA calling freq. or at any clear freq. near it.  I will try to operate split for better results.  I have also 14MHz segment in Indonesia so I may also try that band and 7MHz also if I have a long bamboo pole available.  It was not previously planned to be there but it is a great surprise to be allowed to be back.”

(I am mailing out a 12m Spiderbeam Pole to Leo so I hope this will be better than his ‘bamboo pole’…73 de Charles)

IOTA Charges increase

iota-TRANS

Published on the IOTA website today;

Although increases in charges are never welcome, we have come to the conclusion that we have no alternative but to revise some of them upwards to cover increased costs that we are having to meet, following recent significant currency exchange variations in the financial markets.We are faced also with a continuing small shortfall in the Friends of IOTA Appeal funds to meet the cost of the IT project to rewrite the programme software.

This project will revolutionise the way that IOTA credits can be obtained by allowing QSO matches from your log with islanders’ logs on Club Log. This must provide huge financial savings for award chasers. The more than 50% increase in applications since the introduction of a degree of this on the existing IT system has made us confident that by taking on this major development we are meeting the wishes of a large section of the IOTA community. Finally, any newly formed company needs working capital and we have very little of this at the moment.

Participants who have been waiting for the 1000 Islands Trophy will be pleased to know that from January onwards we will be in a position to supply as we have identified a source and placed a major order. The list of charges applying from 1 January 2017 can be seen here.

3B9FR – 600 QSO’s lost from Log

3B9FR
Today I have been speaking with Robert 3B9FR. He informs me that he has had a problem with his Computer and that ALL qso’s between the 17th October 2016 to the 06th December 2016 have been lost.

 He has no back up logs and has lost approximately 600 qso’s. His last log sent to me was the 17th of October also so as he says, the QSO’s are lost.

 Please pass this message around your friends and maybe they can try to work him again 😉
