RI0B Arctic Legends Tour 2018 …update

ri0b

Many of you can remember the RI0B callsign sounding back in 2001 from Ushakova Island. Our team has decided to give this callsign a second breath. Moreover, one of our current team members (Andy Moiseev UA0BA) was the member of the old “Lost Islands” expedition too. And so after his suggestion and blessing we’ve taken the same callsign RI0B for our new expedition again. Our new expedition «Arctic legends 2018» will take place in September this year.

Participants will visit islands, near which the legendary schooner Fram of an expedition of F. Nansen (1893) drifted 125 years ago. The team will make radio communication sessions on short waves with the whole world. The expedition targets include studying and testing the short waves propagation and new the types of digital communication in the Arctic regions, photo and video filming of Arctic flora and fauna, environmental monitoring of the area. By means of holding scientific and technical actions the purpose of team is promoting the names of travelers with which names of northern territories of the Russian Federation are connected. After completion of the “Arctic’s Legends” expeditions participants will hold meetings with youth, lectures and photo exhibitions and also will report results to the general public.

Our route is as follows: Arhangelsk – Dickson – Firnley Islands (AS- 054 ) – Tyrtova Island (AS-121 )  – Rozmyslov Island ( AS-104 ) – Nansena Island ( AS- 104 ) – Skott-Gansena Island ( AS – 068 ) – Arkticheskogo Instituta Islands( AS- 087 ) – Sibiryakova Island ( AS- 005 ) – Dudinka .   The whole route will take place on the yacht “Apostol Andrey” under the supervision of Captain Nikolay Andreevich Litau.   R3CN

Charles M0OXO

I was born in the 1960’s and have lived all my life in the Coal Mining Town of Barnsley in South Yorkshire, Northern England. My parents were all from this area of Yorkshire and my father worked in the main Industry of the local Collieries as a face worker. I have been married to my wife Debbie for 35+ years and we have two children and two grandchildren.

I have been licensed for around 20 years after my interest was re-kindled when I retired from my role as a Police Officer within South Yorkshire Police Force. The latter few years were spent as Radio Operator in the Force Operations Control Room at Sheffield, before my career ended.

IOTA chasing is (and always has been) my real passion, as climbing the ladder to reach Honour Roll status was always my main aim. The 1000 Islands Trophy is still out of reach but I am heading in the right direction. I am currently a Board Member of IOTA Ltd and IREF.

In my free time I am a keen Photographer of Wildlife, Aviation, (anything really) but the QSL Manager role is my main passion within Ham Radio.
