Charles was born in the 60’s and has lived all his life in the Coal Mining Town of Barnsley in South Yorkshire, Northern England. His parents were all from this area of Yorkshire and his father worked in the main Industry of the local Collieries as a face worker. He has been happily married to his wife Debbie for 22 years and has two children.
All Amateurs started their hobbies through different veins and Charles was no different. He started in the early 70’s listening to the common
Broadcast Stations of the time such as Radio Luxembourg, Caroline, VOA and the other ‘usual suspects’ of that era.
He has been licensed for around 12 years after his interest was re-kindled when he was forced to retire from the Police Force after 22 years through injury. The latter few years were spent as Radio Operator in the Force Control Room at Sheffield, South Yorkshire.
He is an active member of the ‘Strange Radio Team’, the ‘IPHG’ and a member of ‘Chiltern DX Club’. Charles is
also involved with and is a member of the ‘WAP’ (World Antarctic Programme) & the IPY (International Polar Year) Event, being the main operator of ‘GBØANT’ and ‘GB4IPY’ Stations. His main Contest groups are the Strictly Contest Club (M0SCC / M2X) and spends a lot of time Qrv with the antics of his friends in the Strumble Head Contest DX Group in Pembrokeshire
(MC0SHL / MW9W). Of course the OXO Contest Club (M0OCC / M0X) is still alive and kicking and that also is a regular callsign heard during contest weekends!
He continues to be UK Checkpoint for the ‘ACIA’ (All Croatian Islands Awards) & ‘TWLHF’ (The World Lighthouse Foundation) Awards ( www.9a7k.com ) and as well as checkpoint, he is an active from UK National Parks and Nature Reserves for the ‘’World Flora Fauna Programme of Awards ( www.wff44.com ) You will find links to the GFF (World Flora Fauna UK & Ireland) on this website too and please check out the new GFF Award that is also being offered in various levels!
Charles still finds time to continue as a member of the Qsl Managers Society, see link or email him (details above) should you require the services of a Manager for whatever the reason ( http://www.qsl.net/qslmanagers ).
He is also kept very busy as the UK/European contact for UX5UO Qsl Card Printers and working on behalf of Gennady and Julia he finds very rewarding (see link on the toolbar).
Over the last few Years he has been active on several Islands around the UK including the Farne Islands, Holy Island Lindisfarne, Caldey Island, Les Minquiers Islands situated off Jersey and more recently Ramsey Island, Wales (Photo's in Gallery ).
He also has interests in Lighthouses and along with colleagues, he has activated over 80 Lighthouses within the UK.
Contesting has gained a place at the top of Charles’ agenda nowadays and he enjoys them more than ever. He is qrv in SSB, CW & Datamodes (mainly in RTTY).
