8938529Our friend is at it again! Cezar/VE3LYC and Johan/PA3EXX will attempt a very challenging expedition to Wollaston islands (SA-031) and Diego Ramirez islands (SA-097) between approximately January 7 and 22, 2011.

GFF Honour Roll Award - now available....

The last in the series of GFF Awards, the GFF Honour Roll Award (HRA) is now available from the GFF team.

The HRA is available to the stations that have worked, heard or activated at least 50 National Parks or Nature Reserves Worldwide, those being listed in the WFF Award Program. It is hoped that in due course it will be available via the EW4DX LogSearch Database but it may take some time for it to become 'live' on that system.

The first HRA's were issued today to Gino Vandeweghe ON3SSB and Peter Destoop ON3WAB/M6ONL, well done to both.

You can find more information about 'GFF' and their various awards on my website by clicking here and for more information on the GFF HR Award then click on the Certificate above to be directed to the information.

Snow disruption & record temperatures in UK...

UK-snow-2010-01-07-noonSnowstorms and freezing temperatures are disrupting travel across the UK for a fifth day as airports cancel flights and train operators limit services.

The earliest widespread snowfall in the U.K. since 1993 has frozen over roads, disrupting traffic, with icy weather likely to last until at least Dec. 8th. The U.K.’s Met office warned of widespread icy roads across Scotland’s Highlands today and forecast temperatures to drop as low as minus 20 degrees Celsius in Scotland this morning and as low as minus 5 degrees Celsius in London and the southeast of England.

The area worst affected in the U.K. was the North with Yorkshire and Northumberland bearing the brunt. A spokesman for the Automobile Association said the rescue service responded to 18,000 calls on Dec. 1, and had 100,000 in the past six days. We are now in our 7th day without any Mail service so delivery of Qsl Cards has a serious delay.

Temperature at my address is currently -12.6 Degrees Celsius, almost breaking my record of -13.7 Celsius in 2002.

06th December 2010 -13.9 Celsius

New Awards.....

K1024_M0OXO-NASPA-100Pleased to receive a few new Awards this week from the European PSK Club after another blitz of operating in recent weeks.

I must try and concentrate on some RTTY work now as its my lowest score of the three modes I now operate (CW, SSB & RTTY).

Hope for a few new slots on CW this weekend in the CQWW CW Contest after managing C6 (Bahamas), 5C (Morocco) and ZA (Albania) this afternoon

ZL8X (ZLFF-018) 'All time new' one bagged....

Huge pile-ups today on several bands as ZL8X made their first full day on the air. I was pleased to break the 20M CW pile up for an all time new one but not hearing them too well on SSB.

Anvil-shaped Raoul Island (Sunday Island), the largest and northernmost of the main Kermadec Islands, (located at 29°15'S 177°55'W, 900 km SSW of 'Ata Island of Tonga and 1100 km NNE of New Zealand's North Island), has been the source of vigorous volcanic activity during the past several thousand years that was dominated by dacitic explosive eruptions.

The area of the island, including fringing islets and rocks mainly in the northeast, but also a few smaller ones in the southeast, is 29.38 km². The highest elevation is Moumoukai peak, at an elevation of 516 m.

The Operation is set to last until December 5th. See their website here. Good luck!

New Zone 19 record....

uu5mafNew QSO/hour record was set up in the last CQ WW SSB Contest 2010 by Vladislav Sitnikov, UU5MAF, operated at RC0F.

Vladislav managed to score 322 QSO during one hour!!! Soon, his result will placed in ‘the best QSO rates in Contests' table at http://www.qsl.net/oh1noa/rates.htm

Vladislav is the only contester from Russia and Ukraine to achieve such a high score. Also, in this contest Vladislav claimed for new 19 Zone record. Once again, I’d like to mention that this result was scored from the Sakhalin Island, and it will be the only result from Asia.

Vladislav operated from Gennady, R0FA, ex UA0FAI station, with quite a simple setup. 4 elements SteppIR, Optibeam 4030, FT2000 and Acom 2000 PA.
Well done Vladimir!!

Complaint about my Qsl Managing.....

Yesterday i received a Direct request via Post Mail for a Qsl Card of PX2C who I manage. They are not Bureau members and therefore all Cards have to go Direct as it clearly says on Qrz.Com. The request from this station contained no contribution towards Postage and as I could not send by bureau this intial response was sent to him. Read these messages that we exchanged and make your own mind up. The first response is the same as everyone gets if they do not conform to what is required when requesting a Direct Qsl Card for any station:-

From M0OXO to F5TXI

Dear OM,

I have received your request this morning for a Qsl card in respect

of a contact with PX2C .

Unfortunately Team PX2C are not members of the Bureau so all

requests for PW2D/PY2MTV / PX2C have to go Direct only as

it clearly says on Qrz.Com.

If you wish to receive the card direct, then that is OK if you make a

donation of €2 / $2 or equivalent via Paypal. You can find more

information on my website at :-

Take care, many thanks & kindest regards,

TC3WFF & TC3A from new LZFF.....

3272460_p690From 24 to 30 November 2010 will take place WFF NEW ONE expedition TC3WFF and TC3A (CQ WW Contest) in National Park Kus Cenneti (Bird Paradise), TAFF-022.

The expedition is organized by “LZ Contest group” and Bulgarian radio club “LZ Flora Fauna”, and will be active on HF bands 160-10 meters SSB, CW.
They will also participate in the CQ WW CW Contest 27-28 November 2010 (only TC3A).

QSL for TC3A via LZ1NK and for  TC3WFF via LZ1ZF

to Buro today.......

K800_Qsl_Mont.jpgCards done and to be sent to the RSGB Bureau this week are:-

G4RCG 45, MØIAA 49,
MW0OXO/P (WFF) 85, MØOXO 100, GB0WFF (WFF) 75, GB2NSF 180.
Latest batch from the Buro arrived last Wednesday and were processed by Saturday.

I am now moving on to assist Igor RA3CQ to confirm hundreds in his logbook as he has experienced serious problems in the Buro system at his side.
Along with Tim M0URX, we declined his generous offer to assist with costs and instead we offered to sponsor the printing of his cards, labels and postage, in an attempt to help him out.
I am hopeful that the 'black cloud' hovering around his enjoyment of the hobby may now be lifted and once more he can enjoy the hobby as is intended.

UK Amateur 'in Space'...

paris_launchThe Paper Aircraft Released Into Space team (PARIS) has spent the last three days sipping champagne and analysing data and images following last week's triumphant space plane mission.

Here's an quick snap of the launch (.kmz location here), and the same seen from the main payload Kodak Zx1 video camera.

Amateur space enthusiasts, John Oates and Lester Haines among them Radio Amateur Steve Daniels G6UIM who designed the radio tracking system to recover the paper aircraft) made the plane out of paper straws covered with paper.

They attached the aircraft - which has a 3ft wingspan - and a camera to a helium balloon and released it into the air on October 28.
It soared an astonishing 23 miles above the ground, taking lots of images before gliding back to earth.

''We will remember them.....''

800px-Inflandersfieldslestweforget01 'Poppy Day' is observed on the 11th of November to recall the official end of World War I on that date in 1918, as the major hostilities of World War I were formally ended "at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month" of 1918 with the German signing of the Armistice (Note that "at the 11th hour", refers to the passing of the 11th hour, or 11:00 am.)

Remembrance Day (also known as Armistice Day or Veterans Day ) is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth countries to remember the sacrifices of members of the armed forces and civilians in times of war, specifically since the First World War. This day, or alternative dates, are also recognised as special days for war remembrances in many non-Commonwealth countries.

More information about the Two-Minute Silence, Remembrance Sunday and the Remembrance Festival is available on the Legion's website.

21/28 Mhz Contest - Stay of execution

K800_HFCCAfter much debate this Year as to whether the 21/28MHZ Contest should be scrapped, the following message received yesterday from Steve Knowles G3UFY, Secretary of the RSGB Contest Committee:

The RSGB Contests Committee met on Sunday 7th November 2010.  A number of important decisions were made concerning both HF and VHF contests, details of which will be published in due course.  The question of the 21/28MHz Contest, however, is one which appears to be of particular interest.
